Update: Rockstar never released a standalone “Trailer 3.” Instead, the company skipped the traditional trailer format entirely and went straight to a 26-minute gameplay showcase – Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look – which premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026. If you were waiting for Trailer 3, the Extended Look is what you were waiting for.
What actually happened
- June 18, 2026: Cover art revealed
- June 25, 2026: Pre-orders opened – no trailer
- July 2026: The rumored July 21 trailer never materialized
- August 27, 2026: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix – 26 minutes of PS5 gameplay
The July 21 date was community speculation, not an official Rockstar announcement. Rockstar’s actual plan was bigger: rather than a 90-second cinematic, they delivered a full showcase in partnership with Netflix.
Why Rockstar skipped Trailer 3
- Scale: A 26-minute Netflix special dwarfs any trailer in impact and runtime
- Reach: Netflix’s subscriber base delivered a mainstream, non-gaming audience
- Substance: Fans wanted gameplay, not another cinematic – Rockstar delivered exactly that
- Timing: Landing in late August left a clean 12-week runway to the November 19 launch
What the Extended Look showed
- Combat blending RDR2’s weight with Max Payne 3’s precision
- Life simulation – Jason taking a beer from the fridge, watching TV
- Nightlife and clubbing woven into missions
- On-the-fly character customization for both protagonists
- The opening Boobie Ike pickup sequence
Full breakdown: Everything revealed in the Extended Look.
What comes next
- September-October 2026: Story trailer or character deep dives likely
